9 Ways To Discharge Your Nervous System To Sleep Better (And Be More Effective)

Posted on 2nd October 2023

There are 2 types of people in the world: those that ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—บ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐˜€ and ๐˜๐—ต๐—ผ๐˜€๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐—ปโ€™๐˜.

Guess which group is more ๐˜€๐˜‚๐—ฐ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ณ๐˜‚๐—น? And which one do you belong to?

If you experience muscular tension in your body when you go to sleep, you want to recognise it and get rid of it instead of sleeping with it.

Why? Your most precious asset is your health and the second one is your mental energy. Without the latter, the first will be impacted too, to not mention the damage that lack of energy can bring to your career.

Taking care of yourself BEFORE you go to sleep to ensure a good nights sleep (which is the ONLY way to fully refill your mental energy tank) is crucial.

Hereโ€™s how:

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Chill Time Routine: before bed, try relaxing activities like deep breathing, easy stretches, or even a meditation.

๐Ÿ‹๏ธ Move Your Body: never let a day go by without any physical exercise (guilty of that one too like me?!). Keep it light as bedtime gets closer to avoid getting too energized.

๐Ÿ›€ Cozy Bath: taking a warm bath before bed can help your muscles relax and make you feel less stressed. You can add a few drops of calming oils like lavender or chamomile โ€“ like a mini spa!

๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ Tense No More: ever heard of progressive muscle relaxation? It's about slowly relaxing different groups of muscles, starting from your feet and moving up. You can find plenty of guides on YouTube.

๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ Easy Yoga or Stretching: spend a few minutes doing simple yoga poses or gentle stretches before bed. This helps your muscles let go of stress for a good night's sleep.

๐Ÿ“ฑ Less Screen Time: you know this alreadyโ€ฆ avoid screens about an hour before bed. Donโ€™t overstimulate your brain with news or social media or youโ€™ll pay the price the next day!

๐ŸŽถ Relaxing Routine: make a routine for bedtime that helps you wind down. Whether it's reading, listening to calming music, or taking a few minutes to relax your mind. Build your cozy pre-sleep ritual.

โ˜• Tea Time: have a cup of herbal tea like chamomile, valerian, or passionflower before bed. They can help you relax โ€“ a nice little pamper to end the day.

๐Ÿฅ— Light Eating: eat light in the evening and avoid caffeine. You want a peaceful sleep, and heavy food can mess with that.

๐Ÿ˜Š Happy Thoughts: before sleep, imagine a calm place or something that makes you smile. This simple trick can help you let go of stress and feel more at peace.

๐Ÿ™ Gratitude Moment: take a moment to think about 3 things you're grateful for from the day. Review your day through the lens of abundance and gratitude, it will bring a positive vibe and a sense of contentment.

Choose your favourite point/s, repeat them for a while and monitor your energy levels throughout the day.

Which one will you start with? Let me know, Iโ€™m curious!
