#BrainFactMonday – Do You Resist Change? Here Are Some Tips To Make It Easier

Posted on 22nd May 2023

"𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝘆 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱, 𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻'𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲".

Nope. That's how your brain is wired, perhaps (sometimes it's just an excuse), but you can certaintly change it.

Change is a fundamental characteristic of the brain, in fact, changes in the brain occur every single day, continuously, thanks to its #neuroplasticity.

🧠Neuroplasticity is the brain's ability to reorganise itself by forming new neural connections in response to changes in our environment, behaviour, and thoughts. This means we can change how our brain works and even overcome certain limitations by actively engaging in new experiences, learning new skills, and adopting new habits.

💪When you embrace the concept of neuroplasticity, you approach life's challenges and goals with a growth mindset, knowing that 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳.Actively engaging with your neuroplasticity will not only make it easier to change, but it will keep your brain healthy and functioning optimally throughout your lifetime.

How do you keep it active and healthy?

👉 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 with new and stimulating activities. Our brains thrive on novelty and complexity, so learn new skills and explore new environments. Examples include learning a new language, taking up a musical instrument, solving puzzles, or taking a new route to work.

👉 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 to enhance your brain's ability to regulate emotions and focus attention. These practices have been shown to promote changes in the structure and function of the brain regions involved in emotion regulation, concentration, and memory.

👉 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘀𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗽. Sleep is essential for consolidating memories and allowing the brain to recover and repair. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night and establish a regular sleep schedule.

👉 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 to promote the growth of new brain cells and enhance brain connectivity. Physical exercise has been shown to increase blood flow to the brain, boost the production of neurotrophic factors, and improve brain plasticitity.

👉 𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 and social connections. Social support and meaningful relationships have been linked to improved brain health and resilience. Engage in activities that promote social bonding, such as volunteering, group sports, or hobbies.

Remember, you have the power to change your brain, and your brain has the power to change your life! What are you going to do today to engage with your neuroplasticity?
