When You Procrastinate Ask Yourself Questions
Posted on 13th February 2024

When you procrastinate, do you tend to 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳? Try to 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, instead.
I just came out of a session with a client who kept procrastinating on sending job applications and felt bad about it, triggering a negative spiral that kept her stuck.
By answering thoughtful questions, she discovered that her procrastination was actually a form of "𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻" towards a path that would have switched off her sense of aliveness.
(In her heart, she's way more excited about starting a business).
She left full of energy, inspiration, enthusiasm and also with a set of exciting actions to take (all this happened because she changed the way she looked at her "procrastination").
So next time you procrastinate, instead of beating yourself up, 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳:
➡️ What is my 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆/𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱 trying to tell me by procrastinating?
➡️ Am I really procrastinating? or am I 𝘂𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 that this is the right course of action for me?
➡️ If procrastination were a form of 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, what could this be protecting me from?
➡️ When I procrastinate on this task, what do I 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲? What triggers this feeling?
➡️ Is this set of actions I'm procrastinating about going take me where I can feel 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗔𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲*?
Bringing attention inward instead of taking steps against your will might reveal new pathways and generate the energy you need to take steps towards a goal that will help you Feel Alive.
*As a Human Being, this should always be your aim when making decisions.
How does this approach sound to you?
